Hey everyone. Jordan and I have been planning our wedding. I couldn't be happier to have her&nbsp;as my bride.&nbsp;She means the world to me. Anyway we are very excited.&nbsp;I am nearing&nbsp;the completion of my solo&nbsp;album.&nbsp;It has already took me&nbsp;way too long, but&nbsp;I think it&nbsp;should turn&nbsp;out good when it is&nbsp;done.&nbsp; It should be out&nbsp;by January.&nbsp;Hope everyone has happy holidays.&nbsp;

Thanks, Aaron

Whats up buddy sons-

The new photo (of me and Jordan)on my home page was taken during a fine art photo booth in downtown Asheville by Castell Photography.&nbsp;&nbsp;
Mountain Hearts gigs have finally slowed down and I am glad to have some time at home.&nbsp;&nbsp;I am ready to buy a tree, watch Elf,&nbsp;and work some on my own projects.&nbsp; It has been a good year.&nbsp; I am looking forward to 2010.

Hope you have a nice holiday-&nbsp;A

September 2009 update

Stonehenge!&nbsp; That's it!&nbsp; We visited it on Saturday, September 5th, prior to our first show at the Didmarton Bluegrass
Festival.&nbsp; I didn't have any electrical converters, so my phone went dead and I couldn't use my computer.&nbsp; The internet service there was not very good either, so I guess it was about as good as it could be.&nbsp; We had a blast, leaving out on Thursday afternoon out of Charlotte, NC, flying to Cleveland, OH, going out to eat and then flying towards London in the late evening.&nbsp;

The weather was a bit chillier than we expected, but it wasn't too bad.&nbsp; We played that Saturday and then again on Sunday, September 6th.&nbsp; I returned home about 1 AM on Tuesday.&nbsp; Surprisingly, I got up reasonably early (about 11:30) considering the time changes and jet lag.&nbsp; It really wasn't too bad.&nbsp; When we went to Switzerland in February of 2008, I was up for about 30 hours straight, on the return journey home, without sleep.&nbsp; That was rough.

Today I'm in Kansas, near Wichita.&nbsp; I have watched Clay Jones and Josh playing golf with the bus driver.&nbsp; I just went along for the ride, to take piccs and video.&nbsp; We may catch something interesting.&nbsp; After getting back from England on Monday night/early Tuesday, I met Tony Rice here in town and rode with him to Claremore, OKlahoma, as we played a show with him at the Bluegrass and Chili Festival.
That was this past Saturday, September, 12th.

We played a few songs at a fairly large church near Claremore on Sunday morning.&nbsp; I had to pack church clothes for this trip.&nbsp; That was good.&nbsp;&nbsp; In Claremore, we were only about 150 miles from Winfield, Kansas, where we will be playing this coming Friday and Saturday, at The Walnut Valley Festival.&nbsp; It made sense to stay here, instead of driving 970 miles back home, taking 15 hours and then doing the same thing again on Thursday AM, coming back out here.

Next week, if nothing don't change, I may have to travel to Nashville on Wednesday evening, for a couple of day's worth of recording, then go to Georgia for a gig on the 26th, and THEN, returning to Nashville for a week's worth of <a target="_new" href="http://www.ibma.org">IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) to attend their trade show for a week.&nbsp; It'll be fun, but it will involve a good bit of promotional work for us as well.

I have several pics of the England trip up on the photos page, one being in the RANDOM folder.&nbsp; Be sure and check it out.

A bunch of dates coming and I'm going to be playing in NORTH CAROLINA for an entore weekend in October.&nbsp; One of those dates is in Lenoir, about 12 miles from my home, with Tony Rice.&nbsp; I hope some of you can attend.&nbsp; Look for details on the schedule page.

Thanks for keeping up.

August 2009 update

Well, a bit over a month has past since my last post, so here goes.

We didn't get the bus fixed in time to use it get to GreyFox or the Grassroots Festival, but a couple of vans did the trick.&nbsp; It made the weekend a bit harder, but we made it anyway and had a blast at both of those festivals.&nbsp; We finished up that weekend in Kent, Ohio and then got back home for a day or two.

I&nbsp;left out on Tuesday, July 21st, and headed to the MACC (Musicians Against Childhood Cancer) Festival near Columbus, OH.&nbsp; I've been going up there since 2003 (back when I was still playing with Dad) and have played it with Randy Kohrs on a couple of occasions and now for the past 2 years with Mountain Heart.&nbsp;

It rained.&nbsp; Hard.&nbsp; I was in a tent camping and had to move it to higher ground (we were just in a low spot where the water was standing).&nbsp; We (MHeart) were scheduled to play on Wednesday evening and the rain fell and we ended up playing only about 3 songs until everything had to be shut down.&nbsp; Most of the guys went back home but I stayed and the weather improved a bit later in the week and I ended up playing some mandolin and a bunch of bass with Tony Rice, during the Rice tribute show on Saturday.&nbsp; There are a few pics of this (and the other festivals earlier) on my photos page.

Back home, then a show at Randy Wood's in Bloomingdale, GA, on July31st, and then a show at the Fiddlefest in Roanoke, VA on the first of August.&nbsp; There's a pic or two up from Fiddlefest, too.&nbsp; The Fiddlefest was another fun show with Rice and Terry Baucom.&nbsp; There's a couple of videos up on youtube.

Then, I went to the beach with my family.&nbsp; For most of a week.&nbsp; I didn't even carry a guitar or a mandolin with me.&nbsp; As much as I love playing music, I was ready for a complete break.&nbsp; We ate fish, swam, rode bikes, slept and just generally chilled out.&nbsp; Holden Beach, NC is a wonderful place to rest.&nbsp; We've been going there as long as I can remember.

This past weekend MHeart played twice in one day in the Salyersville, KY area.&nbsp; It was fun and I got home about 5 AM Sunday.&nbsp; Monday morning, I traveled to Nashville, to work on Randy Kohrs new recording and he is going to work on mine.&nbsp; Back in the door late on Tuesday night.

Mountain Heart is off for the next 2 weeks and then, on Labor Day weekend, we travel to Didmarton, England for a bluegrass festival there.&nbsp; We'll be there for 3 days and then get back and start rolling here in the states again.&nbsp; I've never been to England and hope to have a small bit of time to see a little of the area.

I'm working on some details of some guest singers on my recording and hope to be able to update you about that a little farther on.&nbsp; The IBMA at the end of September is shaping up to be a pretty busy time and I'll give you more info about that later on as well.&nbsp; More dates have just been added and I've changed my calendar appearance.&nbsp; It may be easier for even ME to understand what I have to do and where I'm supposed to go.

Thanks for keeping up,

July 2009 update

This was a shot from our show last night in Uncasville, CT, at the Mohegan Sun Casino.

At the present, we're waiting on a repair to the bus we're in, so we can get on over to Greyfox Festival for our show tonight.&nbsp; The glorious life of making music for a living!

The show in Morganton was fun, even though I scared my folks when I jumped off the stage at the end of the encore.&nbsp; Friday, July 3rd, was spent relaxing in Georgia, prior to Saturday's show in Athens, Ga, at The Melting Point.

Blissfest was a long ride up to the northeastern part of the lower penninsula of Michigan.&nbsp; We enjoyed ourselves there, got home in time to head out on this trip on Tuesday evening.&nbsp; Tomorrow we head to another festival in New York state....well....you can check my schedule.&nbsp; That's what I have to do to know where I'm supposed to be.

I hope somebody is getting pics of all these places we're going....

Hope to catch up soon,

A

The show in Morganton was fun, even though I scared my folks when I jumped off the stage at the end of the encore. Friday, July 3rd, was spent relaxing in Georgia, prior to Saturday's show in Athens, Ga, at The Melting Point.

Blissfest was a long ride up to the northeastern part of the lower penninsula of Michigan. We enjoyed ourselves there, got home in time to head out on this trip on Tuesday evening. Tomorrow we head to another festival in New York state....well....you can check my schedule. That's what I have to do to know where I'm supposed to be.

I hope somebody is getting pics of all these places we're going....

Hope to catch up soon,

June 2009 update

Where does the time go?&nbsp; We had a blast doing the gig in Morganton on the 29th of May and it was good seeing local folks and family.&nbsp; June has been a blur.&nbsp; Kentucky, Tenneessee, Colorado already under our belts and then, South Carolina this weekend.

Next week we'll be back in Morganton on July 2nd for the <a target="_new" href="http://www.redwhiteandbluegrassfestival.com">6th annual Red White and Bluegrass Festival&nbsp;and then it''l be off to Athens, Ga for the 4th of July.&nbsp; Then, there's Michigan, Conneticut, New York (x2), Ohio (x2), and Virginia, that I know of.&nbsp; A trip to England is happening in Spetember....well...check the schedule.

Today I worked on more of the recording above Asheville, NC.&nbsp; With touring, the time to spend working in the studio has become scarce.&nbsp; But I am making progress.

Catch me when you can, again, so I can stay caught up with you.

May 2009 update

May 7th, 2009

Merlefest was a blast.&nbsp; We played twice on Friday and then left that night to play in Villa Rica, GA, on Saturday, the 25th.&nbsp; I got back up there about midnight on Saturday.

On Wednesday, April 29th, I was at <a target="_new" href="http://www.ronblock.com">Ron Block's house getting him to do a bit of&nbsp;banjo on my recording.&nbsp; There's lots of banjo players I like, but Ron is my favorite.&nbsp; It is an absolute honor to get him to play a few tunes for me.&nbsp; Two of the songs are older Gospel songs of Dad's and he likes these newer versions as well.&nbsp; The songs are continuing to come together.&nbsp; There will also be a Josh Shilling song on there that I helped with.&nbsp; I had debated about whether or not to include this one and another song will have to go.&nbsp; We'll see what happens with the&nbsp;song that was cut.&nbsp; It may show up sometime later.

The dates are starting to pile up.&nbsp; This weekend (May 8th &amp; 9th) its The Opry (my 10th or 11th time to play there now) and a private event.&nbsp; Next weekend (May 14-16) it's a couple dates in VA and then one in Gettysburg, PA.&nbsp; Then, Burlington, NC on the 22nd and the Mountain Heart &amp; Tony Rice show in Morganton, NC on the 29th.&nbsp; My hometown.&nbsp; I hope you'll consider coming.&nbsp; Here's a link:

April 2009 update

April 16, 2009

Well, tax day has come and gone.&nbsp; I'm glad.&nbsp; I'm still doing small parts of production on my recording.&nbsp; In my last post, I mentioned working with Tim Stafford, Patton Wages and David Babb.&nbsp; We cut 4 songs that day that will be included on the finished work.&nbsp; It was really fun getting to record with Tim, Patton and David.&nbsp; Most of that stuff was recorded live.&nbsp; There was a bit of over-dubs, but we kept it to a minimum.&nbsp; It has that live feel.

Mountain Heart spent several days last week in the Cleveland, OH, area doing a bit of planning, some work on new songs and meeting new friends.&nbsp; We're headed to MerleFest next Friday, April 24th, in Wilkesboro, NC and then on to Villa Rica, Ga for the 25th.&nbsp; We hope to see some of you there, if possible.&nbsp; BTW, we'll have Tony Rice sitting in with us on the main stage at 6:15 PM at Merlefest.&nbsp; We're going to have a blast!

The Far City Boys have released &quot;I Have Been Blessed.&quot;&nbsp; If interested, you can get one <a target="_new" href="http://www.farcityboysonline.com/music.cfm">here.&nbsp; I had fun helping them get this record accomplished.&nbsp; It is being released on Lamon Records.

This weekend I'm off from playing music.&nbsp; Tomorrow me and Dad are headed to the woods to camp over night, maybe Saturday night as well.&nbsp;&nbsp; We'll probably start home when the food runs out.&nbsp; Steaks and&nbsp;fried taters&nbsp;are the plan for supper.&nbsp; Then, <a target="_new" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livermush">livermush&nbsp;and eggs for breakfast with coffee.&nbsp; The towns mentioned in the article are nearby our town.&nbsp; In fact,&nbsp;Ted Alexander, the mayor of Shelby&nbsp;(the hometown of Earl Scruggs), graduated with Dad from Freedom High School in 1978.&nbsp; He's the guy you see on the Food network show about livermush and helped get the livermush festival started.

Maybe that's too much information.

thanks,

A

March 2009 update

March 25, 2009

Hey folks,

It's been a bit OVER a month since I've updated this news page, so I need to catch up. A bit of work has been accomplished on my new recording since the last update and we're still working on scheduling of musicians. I have worked a bit on it myself and, if everything goes as planned, I'll be in the studio today, working with Patton Wages, David Babb (banjoman and bass player for Bradley Walker, respectively) along with Blue Highway's own Tim Stafford. A couple years ago, I had started some of this recording when I was still with Randy Kohrs and I had thought about getting Tim to play on a cut or two then. It will happen today. Also, the material keeps evolving, changing in mid stream as the process rolls along.

The Far City Boys recording is now finished and I think will be released in mid April. As I get more detailed info about that, I'll try to pass it along.

Mountain Heart's schedule keeps filling up and we will have to do some extensive traveling this summer. We're going to get to do a couple of the Mountain Heart/Tony Rice shows nearby this year. One of them will be here in my hometown of Morganton, NC. This will be on May 29th at The CoMMA (City of Morganton Municipal Auditorium). Actually, it is a benefit for The Men's Club of Morganton, a fine civic organization. For those that have never been to a show at the CoMMA, it is a fine facility which seats just over 1000 folks. Details about shows are on my SCHEDULE page.

I'd love to see you at some of these shows, since I'll be gone a bunch during the upcoming months. If you do get to come out to any of the shows, please make sure we get to talk and visit a bit afterwards.

thanks again,

February 2009 Update

February 16, 2009

We'll it's been a month, so I figured I better check in.

We had a show on 1-16-09 with Tony Rice and had a blast as always. Earlier that day, we played at WDVX on the Blue Plate Special, there in Knoxville. It made for a very long, tiring but satisfying day. I'm pretty sure there's a couple videos of the show with Rice up on YouTube. Just do a search for Mountain Heart Tony Rice and they should show up. This past Saturday, 2-14, Mountain Heart played at Everette's Music Barn in Suwanee, GA. The barn was packed and Travis Tritt's guitar player was there. It was nice meeting him. Next weekend we'll be in Walhalla, SC, on Saturday night, February 21st. Maybe you can come out. Details are on the schedule page.

I've been in Nashville a bit since the last post. Clay Hess is doing a new recording and he asked me to play bass. He had Adam Steffey playing mandolin and Ron Block and Cory Walker sharing the banjo duties. This one's going to mash pretty hard in places. I can't wait to hear it when it's finished. I'll try to give you any updates when it becomes available.

I'm still plotting and planning for the next session for my record. Clay will be there to play guitar on some tracks and I'm going to get Tim Stafford on some tracks, if everything works out. We hope to get back in there working in March.

Hopefully, I'll have the new Far City Boys recording mixed this week. There's only 3-4, maybe 5 songs left to get that done. We're also working on a new recording by Tim Greene. He's currently been playing some bass with Don Rigsby. I've also built a new page here about recording and trying to get a discography going on there as well. Go check it out.

Again, thanks for keeping up!

January 2009 update

January 15th, 2009

Folks, we're going to try and use this page keep you abreast of what's going on. We've already gotten several dates lined up for this year to play with Tony Rice. These shows have been an absolute thrill for me (as well as the other members of Mountain Heart). Tomorrow night, January 16th, we kick off the first of this year's dates with Tony in Knoxville, TN at The Bijou Theater.

Our last show of 2008 was with him at The Inperial Theater in Augusta, GA. The place was PACKED! Several of these gigs have had capacity crowds, so if you are interested, go to my schedule page and check about tickets. The Bijou seats about 700 people.

The weekend before Christmas, I traveled to Ohio for session work on a recordng for Josh Swift's Dad. Josh's Dad sings Gospel music and Clay Hess played guitar, BJ Cherryholmes was on fiddle, Josh played dobro and drums and I played bass, mandolin and some banjo. We may end up bringing this collaboration together again on other recordings in the future.

I have just started a new recording myself. We did the first session on January 4th and I've done a bit of work since then. Tony Rice will be playing guitar on several cuts and he was there on the first day of work. I'll also use Clay Hess (formerly with Mountain Heart, now with Sierra Hull) and Jason Moore will handle some of the bass duties along with some other friends. Things are progressing nicely. Oh, I just remembered! There's a few pics from this session over on the photos page. I think I put them under random pics. Check it out.

I'll try to do my best to keep you up to speed!
